About
I'm Antoine Florence_, a humanari photographer. I'm known as Florence_.
I look for opposites in harmony: unlike things that share something meaningful, rather than merely standing side by side. A sharp palm leaf against a soft pink wall, its own shadow drawn across it. A promise painted on a tower and the absence under it. When two unlike things agree, I press the shutter.
I'm short-sighted, and I love wide apertures: one detail held sharp while the rest softens into color. That's a preference, not a rule. When a scene needs more depth, I stop down.
I work on film, because I like grain and the patience it asks for. I favor the 50mm, and I expose by the light, reading it before each frame. I stand at the subject's eye height, because I want equality, not looking down on anyone. When I look up at someone, it's to give them dignity.
Cartier-Bresson's decisive moment is one of my influences, but I don't wear it as a costume. My name honors Hercule Florence, a pioneer of photography in Brazil. His life and work are his own, and I'm not his continuation.
I work with Kaexa Studios, and I also photograph commissions for Kaethia_.
